Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what data the AFTERGLOW app and website (“AFTERGLOW”, “we”, “us”) process and why. AFTERGLOW is operated by BOFF GmbH (boff.ch), Switzerland. Questions or requests: info@boff.ch.

The short version

• No account, no sign-up, no ads, no third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
• We only store what you choose to submit to the global leaderboard: a display name, an optional city, and your score.
• We never sell your data and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

What we collect

• Leaderboard entries (data you provide). When you post a score you enter a short display name and, optionally, a city. We store this together with your score and the game played so the public global leaderboard can be shown to all players.
• Game session token. To keep the leaderboard fair, each run uses a short-lived, randomly generated session identifier that lets our server verify the run. It is not a persistent user account and is not used to identify you.
• Technical request data. Like any website/app, our hosting and database providers process standard technical information (such as your IP address and request metadata) to operate and secure the service. We do not use this for advertising or profiling.
• On your device. Your chosen name/city and your local high scores are stored locally on your device (app/browser local storage) for convenience. This never leaves your device unless you choose to post a score.

How we use it

• To display the global leaderboard and your ranking.
• To verify scores and prevent cheating and abuse.
• To operate, secure and maintain the service.

Service providers

We use the following processors to run AFTERGLOW. Data may be processed on their infrastructure:

• Vercel Inc. — app/website hosting and serverless functions. Vercel processes technical request data, including your IP address.
• Upstash Inc. — the database that stores leaderboard entries (hosted in the EU, Frankfurt region).

Both providers are US-based companies and may process data outside Switzerland and the EU/EEA. Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards recognised under GDPR and the Swiss FADP, such as Standard Contractual Clauses or the provider's certification under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.

Legal basis (GDPR / Swiss FADP)

We process the display name, city and score you submit under Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract) — posting to the leaderboard is the service you're requesting, so no separate consent is needed for that. Technical and security data (such as IP addresses in server logs) is processed under our legitimate interest in operating a secure, reliable service (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Under the Swiss FADP, the same processing is permitted because it does not violate your personality rights and is necessary to provide the service you use.

Data retention

Leaderboard entries are kept until you ask us to remove them or until we clean or reset a board. Local data on your device stays until you clear your browser/app storage.

Your rights

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your leaderboard entry, and you can object to processing. Email info@boff.ch and we will respond promptly. If you are in the EU/EEA or Switzerland, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.

Children

AFTERGLOW is a general-audience game and is not directed at children. Please do not submit a real name or any personal information in the display name or city fields.

User-submitted names

The display name and city you submit are shown publicly to other players. Do not enter personal data you don’t want to be public. We may remove names or cities that are offensive, infringing or otherwise inappropriate (see our Terms of Use).

Changes

We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above.
